Apsley House

Apsley House

System Five, a 4energy group company, are part of the team who worked on the refurbishment of a series of rooms at Apsley House. A beautiful Georgian building, Apsley House was the London home of the first Duke of Wellington and has changed very little since his great victory at Waterloo in 1815.

Known as “Number One London”, Apsley House stands alone at Hyde Park Corner on the south-east corner of Hyde Park, facing south towards the busy roundabout in the centre of which stands the Wellington Arch.

The rooms which were the focus of the project included the Yellow Drawing Room, the Striped Drawing Room, the Portico Room, the Piccadilly Drawing Room and the Waterloo Gallery. These grand rooms form a dazzling backdrop to Wellington’s outstanding collection of works of art including paintings by Velazquez and Rubens, as well as a wonderful collection of silver and porcelain, not to mention many beautiful pieces of furniture.

System Five worked on this prestigious property with E.V Bullen, a highly respected mechanical and electrical building services company that holds a royal warrant. Works included replacing the air handling control unit panel, underfloor heating controls, interface to Meaco systems and a wireless temperature and humidity system which all play their part in carefully managing the environment in the refurbished rooms.

In 2004 responsibility for maintaining Apsley House, which is a Grade I listed building, was transferred to English Heritage, which continues to display and research the collections in the spirit of the preceding generations of occupants.
